MINIATURE HORSES

We have two miniature horses, a mommy horse and her baby. When we purchase the mare, she had been abused. She was very timid but has learned to gain trust in us. She still tends to be a little shy but we have worked with her everyday with children and adults, so she can feel safe.

The mommy horse was named Ginger Snap because of her coloring. She is called a paint. One cold rainy night, all the animals were put to bed in their stalls and Ginger gave birth to a baby filly. (Female horse) To our surprise when arriving at the barn she had already gave birth and wash up her filly. We immediately called the vet to check out mommy and baby and gave mommy special medication to make sure she was healthy to care for her baby. She had a clean bill of health.

We named the new filly "Chantilly Lace" because she has a pretty face and a pony tail hanging down. We sing the Chantilly Lace song recorded by Jerry Lee Lewis to her all the time.

We also have a shetland pony called Jake. He was a backyard pony that lived by himself, but horses need a buddy, otherwise they can develop bad habits. Jake used to windsuck, which means he sucks in air to his gut that could major medical issues. He also paced back and forth due to boredom. Jake now lives with his girlfriends, Ginger and Chantilly Lace. They are inseperable.

FACTS

These horses were originally bread in the early 1600 century for Kings and Queens and other Nobility for pets. French King Lewis XIV had a painting made with him and his two miniature horses. The breeding continue on for many years and then they were used to work in the English Midlands, Whales and Northern Europe as pit ponies. They were used to pull wagons of coal out of small narrow channels dug into the mines. Today they are primarily used as pets, but have also been used for assisting blind children.

FOOD

These horses eat hay and a mixed grain diet and love treats of carrots and apples. We have special treats for Ginger and Chantilly Lace available for sale at our snack bar. Come visit these unique miniature horses.
